The company aims to sell 60,000 units of the car this year.
NEW DELHI: Ford India is riding the Fiesta wave to target 50% sales growth this year. The company, which shook the entry-level sedan segment by pricing the Fiesta very competitively in December last year, is now pinning its hopes on the car to rake in the moolah.
While it sold 40,000 units last year, the target for the current year is a cool 60,000.
Although it is unlikely to launch any new product this year, Ford is upbeat on its performance. Says GM (Sales and Field Operations) Nalin Kapoor, “We expect turnover to touch the Rs 2,000-crore mark this year. Not only is Fiesta doing very well, the demand for Ikon remains strong.”
He admitted that the company has phased out the 1.6-litre Ford Ikon and now offers only the 1.3-litre petrol version, with an ex-showroom Delhi price of Rs 4.69 lakh. Even the Fiesta has become a little more expensive since the introductory price was withdrawn. It now begins at Rs 5.69 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi) for the petrol version, going all the way up to Rs 7.20 lakh for the 1.45-litre diesel version.
Kapoor said the company was not contemplating any price hike on account of rising input costs yet.
On capacity expansion, he said the company's existing plant near Chennai could be scaled up to 1 lakh units per annum.
